The farmer and TV presenter on marriage – and why you should wed at Jimmy’s Farm itself…
Jimmy, you’ve been married nearly nine years. What’s the secret?
‘I think just having a good partnership is so important, but remembering to take time out together to have fun is what works for us. With the kids and the farm, we’re so busy – all the everyday nuts and bolts consume a lot of our time, so we make sure we still do stuff as just the two of us, like going for lunch or a long walk.’
What made your wedding stand out in your eyes?
‘We had a tepee, a hog roast and drinks in the vegetable garden. We wanted to keep the theme for the food wholesome and centred around the farm.’
Was there anything you’d change?
‘We had a videographer who got some amazing timelapse footage of us cutting the cake. When we watched it back there was a wasp all over it getting into the icing – so I’d go back and get rid of him!’
You can now marry at Jimmy’s Farm! Why should our readers consider your venue?
‘You can have your whole day here, from ceremony to reception, and use every area. You can design and grow your own bouquet, too – and we’ve got an in-house wedding planner who can help tailor every last detail. Plus you won’t get fresher wedding catering, as we can design bespoke menus incorporating food produced on the farm.’
What advice would you give to anyone getting married?
‘Remember to watch people enjoying themselves. The whole day goes so quickly and you spend most of it trying to go round and chat to all of your guests, so it’s good to take a step back and watch it all happening for the memories.’
