Summer is finally here as Laura Whitmore returns to our screens to host this summer’s new series of Love Island, starting Monday, 28 June.

The evidence session, taking place during Mental Health Awareness Week, will see MPs speak to the reality TV personality about his petition on tackling online abuse. The session will also see Bobby discuss his personal experiences of homophobic abuse since first appearing in the public eye in ITV2 show The Only Way is Essex in 2012.

The event will take place over videolink as the UK enters its 9^th week of lockdown. Many have raised concerns over the effect of Coronavirus and social distancing on mental health as people have been forced to spend more time online and on social media.

The session was scheduled after more than 133,000 people signed Bobby’s petition on the petition.parliament.uk website. The petition, titled “Hold online trolls accountable for their online abuse via their IP address” calls for abusers to have their access to social media blocked by internet service providers and social media companies.

Catherine McKinnell MP, Chair of the Petitions Committee, said:

“I’m pleased that Bobby is able to share his personal experiences of online abuse with the Committee during Mental Health Awareness Week.

“Highlighting these issues in Parliament is so vital for raising awareness, and can shine a light on the action that can be taken to help stamp out this all too common problem. 

“Online abuse can affect anyone, and takes many forms. It is a subject that is very close to my heart, and something that the Petitions Committee investigated extensively in the last Parliament.

“But with online abuse as prevalent as ever, and Coronavirus meaning people are on social media more than ever, it is imperative we take steps to tackle online abuse and stamp it out.”

The evidence session is the first step from the Petitions Committee in their new inquiry on tackling online abuse. The inquiry will consider issues raised in a number of petitions from the last Parliament and follow up on the Committee’s previous inquiry into online abuse and the experiences of disabled people. More details on the inquiry will be announced following the session.

The evidence session will start at 11am today, and will be broadcast live on Parliament TV. You can also watch the session on UK Parliament’s YouTube channel.

For example, series five star Molly-Mae Hague is Love Island’s most bankable female star on Instagram, despite not even winning the show.

Boasting 3.8 million Instagram followers, she can charge £28,500 per paid Instagram post. That’s £6,750 more than the winner of her series, Amber Gill!

Dani Dyer of series four is the most successful Love Island winner, and is able to charge £24,750 per paid Instagram. This is £21,990 more than the S1 winner Jessica Hayes is able to charge, at £2,760.

The stand-out bankable stars from the latest Love Island series six, is the winner Paige Turley at £12,000 per Instagram post, and runner-up Siânnise Fudge who can charge £11,250 per sponsored Instagram post.

Olivia Bowen of S2 posts the most sponsored Instagram posts – in February she posted 21 despite it being a 28-day month, earning her an estimated £346,500. Again, she finished second in the show, highlighting that you don’t need to win Love Island to become the most profitable.

Based on the above table, the average female Love Island finalist can charge, £19,250 per sponsored post.

The Thunder Girls, based on the number one bestselling novel of the same name, follows a fictional 80s girl group who haven’t seen or spoken to each other in 30 years after greed, envy and ego tore the band and their friendship apart.

The play, which also features original music and songs, focuses on the ‘the girls night in from hell’, as former lead singer Chrissie Martin, played by ex-EastEnders’s star Carol Harrison, desperate to salvage herself from bankruptcy after being conned out of her fortune by her toy boy husband, organises a ‘reunion’ dinner, but it’s clear that the main course on the menu is revenge.

Coleen Nolan reprises her critically acclaimed role as bandmate Anita and Gary Webster returns in the role of their manager Rick.

Having turned down thousands of acting roles in the past, this is the first time that Coleen has ever gone on tour with a play and the longest she has ever acted.

While at first the 54-year-old was ‘absolutely terrified of acting on stage’, once she started she couldn’t get enough of it.

She said: “Having lived and breathed the ups and downs of girl band life I knew as soon as I read the script that The Thunder Girls was the real deal!

“The preview audiences loved this show and believed every moment of our characters’ lives and that’s because they are real – but rarely ever seen!  The Thunder Girls is like the ultimate sneak peak behind the velvet curtain of showbiz and what really can go on behind closed doors – to say it’s explosive would be an understatement! It starts off at a hundred miles an hour and doesn’t stop until the curtain comes down.

“When we got three standing ovations a night at its previews at the Lowry in Salford we knew the audience could see what we felt during rehearsals, so I’m so glad it’s going on the road for 2020!”

One of the biggest achievements of The Thunder Girls so far is that it has opened theatre doors to a new audience with 80% of people who bought tickets to the preview of the play, never having been to the theatre before.
