Bruising from anti-wrinkle injections is rare, as the needles used are extremely fine and the depth of injection, fairly shallow, whereas with dermal fillers, bruising can be more common, due to the depth of injection, necessary in many of these procedures and the more invasive nature of the delivery of product, even though it is still seen as a non-surgical alternative to surgery.

Bruising can occur in a multitude of different patterns and itself can vary over time in depth, colour and distribution, so it is very difficult to give a solid opinion. These kind of marks from anti-wrinke injections itself is generally unlikely to occur and the pattern of bruising seen in this case doesn’t fit the typical anti-wrinke injection sites, as bruising from these procedures tends to be more pinpoint and less diffuse in nature. Filler injections tend be to placed deeper than anti-wrinke injections and may give more of a widespread pattern of bruising should it occur as shown. However, there can be a bruise pattern which may be a result of a filler treatment for an under-eye tear trough deformity.

Though bruising can occur and in many cases, cannot be helped, there are ways in which you can reduce the risk of such bruising and ways to assist with a faster healing time according to Dr Dan Dhunna of the Botox London clinic.

Cutting any alcohol consumption three to four days prior and 24 hours, following your injectable procedure can significantly help reduce the risk of unwanted side effects. Alcohol thins the blood and causes the blood vessels to dilate. This increases your chances of bruising as well as swelling, after an anti-wrinke injection or dermal filler treatment. Avoiding alcohol before and after these treatments can also help you to achieve optimal results, faster, with less bruising and swelling.

Although some pain relief such as paracetamol can be handy after an injectable treatment, to ease any tenderness at the injection site, taking blood thinning pain killers such as ibuprofen or aspirin, could increase your risk of bruising, for the same reason that alcohol increases the risks.

Taking arnica before your injectable treatment and using arnica gel to treat any small bruises can be a help. This supplement has been used for centuries for its anti-inflammatory properties. Not only can it minimise the risk of swelling and bruising, before an injectable treatment, but can also speed up the healing process, should this occur after your anti-wrinke injections or dermal filler procedure.

Avoiding hot steam, saunas, baths or anything that will overheat you, such as strenuous exercise, can minimise bruising and swelling. This all should be avoided for at least 48 hours, following anti-wrinke injections or dermal filler treatment.

Using a good old-fashioned ice pack can help minimise bruising after your anti-wrinke injections and filler treatment, as this cools the injection site, as it constricts the blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the affected area. In some cases, ice may be used before your injectable treatment, to assist with swelling, bruising and even the sensation of the needle or cannula.

Dr Dan Dhunna swears by using Auriderm, a vitamin K oxide bruising cream, following your anti-wrinke injections or dermal filler treatment. These are all questions you should be asking yourself if you have ever wondered just what the correct way to shower is. And especially if you suffer from dry or sensitive skin.

High-profile celebrities have been debating publicly about how often they shower, but according to ARRAN Sense of Scotland we could all do with reviewing our showering habits.

1. Shower less

It might surprise you to hear that most people are probably showering wrongly. The main issue is overcleaning, most of us shower too often and strip the skin of its natural oils but the length of our showers, when we have them, and how we use products are all important.

Skin is actually very clever; it cleans itself and keeps itself healthy by generating a layer of natural oils on the surface. If you shower too frequently you will disrupt the skin’s natural PH balance and strip it of its natural protection.

How often should you shower is a question that celebs have been weighing in on, with the likes of Kristen Bell, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis sitting firmly in camp ‘don’t wash too often,’ while others like Dwayne Johnson shower up to three times a day.

So, what is the magic number when it comes to showers?

One shower a day is more than enough to keep you clean. Some experts actually recommend every other day, depending on your activity levels. Certainly, if you adapt your daily routine to the one shower a day rule and you should see your skin start to benefit. If you’re heading to the gym after work, then don’t shower in the morning for example.

2. Think about timings

A shower in the morning wakes you up and gets you ready for the day, but skin care experts are unanimous that the best time to shower for skin is at night.

If you’re sticking to one shower a day, then nighttime is without a doubt the best time to do it.

Showering at night removes the build-up of dirt and bacteria on the skin’s surface ready for the skin to regenerate as you sleep. By going to bed with clean skin you will limit the opportunity for pores to become clogged as this rejuvenation process happens.

3. Try seasonal showering

You can adapt your shower routine with the seasons too – otherwise known as ‘seasonal showering.’ Winter months are harsher on skin, and over-washing can further strip skin of natural oils, which can, in turn, lead to already dry skin becoming flaky and itchy.

Couple this with exposure to changes in temperature, going from very cold outside to warm central heating, or getting out of a hot shower into a cold room and it’s a recipe for disaster for the skin.

In summer, you may need to shower more frequently as the temperature rises, especially if you’re exercising or have an active job. If you suffer from hay fever, then a shower before bedtime will help to rinse off any pollen residue.

If you shower more than once a day, there should be no need to use soap on the entirety of your body on all of these occasions.

4. Focus on ingredients

Just as you would with food, you need to check what’s in the products you use on the skin.

Look out for natural products that are fragranced with essential oils rather than harsh chemicals. PH levels are important too, the epidermis has a PH level of 5.5 so find something as close to that as possible and you won’t go far wrong.

If you want something that is gently exfoliating, then choose a soap with oatmeal or wheatgerm that will remove dead skin cells without being too abrasive.

Glycerine is great for the skin as it helps the skin to retain moisture and relieve dryness.

Use soaps that enrich your skin and protect your natural skin barrier. And it doesn’t have to be shower gel. Bar soaps are making a real comeback and no longer fit the stereotype of being drying and harsh on the skin.

5. Wash only where it’s needed

Actor Ashton Kutcher admitted that he just uses soap and water on his “armpits and crotch daily,” but “nothing else ever,” his wife Mila Kunis said along the same lines. Where lots of people found this to be unhygienic, skin experts tend to agree with the celebrity couple.

There’s something to be said about only washing the areas of the body that really need it, especially when showering daily. Again, it’s about letting the skin do its natural thing to protect itself. Perhaps wash your entire body just once or twice a week and use your daily shower to focus on the areas that have lots of sweat glands or where bacteria can gather.

For people that suffer with acne on their backs and other areas of the body, the worst thing you can do here is to dry these areas out by over cleansing. It is counterproductive as the body overcompensates and makes more oil.

6. Scrub-a-dub-dub

Exfoliating two to three times a week can help to remove the build-up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface, but ‘scrubbing’ should be most definitely off the agenda. When exfoliating, try to use something gentle and natural rather than an abrasive surface. Work across the skin in large circular movements and work towards your heart to encourage detoxification.

Baking soda, finely ground sugar, coffee grounds, finely ground almonds, oatmeal, and finely ground sea salt will all exfoliate without being too harsh on the skin.

7. Not too hot, not too cold, but just right

Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock says he has three showers a day – one hot, one cold and one warm, but which of Dwayne’s dips should we emulate?

Cold showers can help with circulation and muscle recovery whereas hot showers are thought to relax the muscles and open pores, but when talking about solely looking after skin, a warm shower is best.

Hot water is another thing that strips the protective oil that your skin needs, so around 36C the ideal temperature for it to not to be harsh on the skin. As a rule of thumb, if your skin is turning red it’s time to turn the heat down.

8. Set the timer

Standing in the shower may be the only moment’s peace you get in a day, but there are several reasons why shorter showers are better. Namely, skincare.

Reducing the time you spend in the shower is not simply better for the environment, it’s great for skin too.

Five to ten minutes is ample time to clean what needs to be cleaned and perhaps have a few minutes to spend daydreaming, waking yourself up or letting the day go if you’re showering at night.

Pop on a timer, or a couple of songs that you love as a reminder of when to get out.

9. To dry or not to dry?

Most people are guilty of not drying off after a shower – but are there any benefits to this?

Applying moisturiser to damp skin can actually lock in the moisture, so yes there are benefits to not drying your skin fully. Pat yourself off and then apply your product to the skin. A word of caution though, you should dry off intimate areas fully otherwise you could be prone to infections. And always let your moisturiser sink in and your skin dry fully before getting dressed.

After Love Island star Cara De La Hoyde asked her social media followers for parenting advice recently we’ve rounded up 10 celebs that’ve been real about the realities of raising a child.

1. Cara De La Hoyde

Cara couldn’t hide her anguish when she took to Instagram Stories to ask for help with handling her little one, daughter Delilah who’s days away from her first birthday. She also shares three-year-old Freddie with husband Nathan Massey.

“So I genuinely need help. I’ve just rung Nathan crying, I don’t know what to do,” she began. “Delilah’s just such hard work. I know everyone we spoke to said it’s lockdown babies, but Fred weren’t like this.

“I don’t know how to cope with her. You can’t walk out of the room, you can’t put her down. She’s in her playpen now, she’s safe. Don’t judge me.”

She added that the advice she normally receives is to just let her cry it out, but that’s not working for them.

“She will cry for like 45 minutes non-stop and get herself in a state where she can’t breathe,” she explained.

“It’s just really draining. I’ve got a house to run, I’ve got work commitments. Literally, I can’t get nothing (sic) done. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where we go for help.”

2. Lucy Mecklenburgh

Ex-TOWIE star Lucy became a mum in March 2020, just before the pandemic really hit, when she and her Coronation Street star fiancé Ryan Thomas welcomed son Roman. Ryan also has an older daughter, Scarlett, with his ex Tina O’Brien.

Lucy recently posted a memory recalling how hard she found those early months of motherhood when the whole world was locked down.

“One year ago memory on my phone just popped up. 3 months old Roman fully in lockdown feeling very much alone, sleep-deprived and overwhelmed,” she wrote.

“I wanted to share as I know there will be new mums feeling like this right now and I can promise you it gets easier. For me it got more manageable, more enjoyable, less repetitive and less demanding. It was hard to reach out for help/support then but now please do!”

3. Georgia Kousoulou

Georgia wanted to shed light on what a post-baby body looks like, which is exactly what she did when she uploaded a stomach-baring image to Instagram in early July.

“THE REALITY… all I heard when I was pregnant was ‘you’ll bounce back’ you’re young etc…It got in my head & I prob did think I would to an extent,” she wrote next to a mirror selfie showing her off her increased waistline and stretch marks.

“So you can imagine the first time I looked in the mirror 8 weeks ago I’m not going to lie.. I freaked out, my body wasn’t my body I was used to no more (sic), I had big stretch marks, I am wider & obviously a c-section scar, I remember just crying.”

She told fans that she hadn’t started exercising yet, ate whatever she wanted and had a complete change of mindset.

“I now look at my body. & I’m proud, I’m proud I have grown a beautiful healthy baby, I’m proud I have got through the first 8 weeks,” Georgia stated, cheekily adding she’d love to get back into her size 10 “Zara bits”.

“I’m giving myself minimum a year, for now I’m focusing on me & my baby. So BOUNCE BACK? The only place I’m bouncing to is TO BED to sleep when I can.”

4. Dani Dyer

Right now, Dani Dyer and her six-month-old son Santi are going through major upheaval after Dani’s ex, and the tot’s dad, Sammy Kimmence was jailed for more than three years for scamming two pensioners out of huge sums of money.

The Love Island winner is known for her honesty in all aspects of her life, and that includes wading through the sometimes turbulent waters of new motherhood.

“I want to know how people find… How people find time do things in the day?” she asked her Insta followers in March. “I can’t find the time. I’ve got a list of things to do. I just can’t do it.

“Since I’ve had Santi I feel like it takes me days to complete one job. Is it just me? Even simple jobs it all seems such effort.. and dinners I mean they are eaten sometimes at 9 o’clock.”

A sentiment all parents can relate to.

5. Helen Flanagan

Actress Helen has come under fire for what some have labelled “ranting” about her kids. She has children Matilda, six, Delilah, three, and four-month-old Charlie with her footballer beau Scott Sinclair.

And: “Delilah screamed so much in the car today I was so stressed I had to stop at Costa drive thru and inhale this (muffin).”

She also openly detailed her battle with hyperemesis gravidarum, or severe morning sickness.

“I’ve been a lot quieter on my social recently as I’ve had hyperemis gravidum. I had this with both girls but this time was on another level,” Helen confessed last year. “Any other mummy’s to be with hyperemis I feel you.”

6. Ferne McCann

Like Dani, Ferne McCann has had to deal with the distress of her baby daddy being sent to prison. The I’m a Celeb favourite was still pregnant with daughter Sunday, now three, when her ex Arthur Collins stood trial for a horrific acid attack he carried out in the early days of her pregnancy. He was eventually sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

Opening up to The Independent in March, she revealed how her attitude has changed to being a single parent: “I guess I was one of those people that might have had a misconception about single parenting, because I didn’t want to be called a single parent when I was pregnant. I didn’t want to be labelled with it, because I hadn’t come to terms with the fact I was going to be a single parent yet. Until I started living and being it, that was when I felt really proud.

“She is already over the moon that we have ‘matching hair’!! My curls are a far cry from what they used to be but, I’m hoping with less heat and a little TLC they will come back to life. So this is for you Alaia-Mai, mummy’s hair IDOL.”

Shining a light on raising children with autism, Paddy McGuinness’ wife Christine has become one of the leading voices on the matter.

Talking to MTV podcast Nappy Days in 2020, Christine admitted she initially blamed herself for her twins’, six-year-old Penelope and Leo, lack of social skills.

“They didn’t speak. They were non-verbal, they’d walk on their tiptoes, they were sensitive to sound and light,” she remembered. “So if there was a sudden noise, they would jump out their skin. But I thought they were just softies. I would think maybe it’s because they are twins, two of them, or that I would not be giving them enough attention. So I blamed myself.

“They were with me permanently. My husband works away a lot so I thought maybe it was me and that I hadn’t taught them very well. They also never went to nursery or playgroups so I blamed myself for them having no social skills. I thought that it was down to me doing a rubbish job as a mother.”

He’s the most precious thing ever I love him so much, I’m trying really hard.”

Perhaps surprisingly, none of the individual royal families that make up the monarchy made it into the top 10 rankings for the richest families.
