Luisa, you’ve invested in the greeting cards and gifts business, Silly Sentiments. What was it about the company that made you want to get involved?

“It’s definitely played to my personality and sense of humour. I’ve always been a fan of Filthy Sentiments and loved everything they’ve done. Now that we’ve become Silly Sentiments, we’re able to cover even more of the gifting industry, as it’s a little more appropriate for all!”

What’s one of your favourite cards or gifts from the range?

“I love the pen packs – people always steal mine! They’re just funny to whip out in a meeting. The whole range make perfect Christmas gifts, too, especially the under £10 and under £5 ranges which are great for Secret Santa. If you’re playing it safe with a work colleague, you can get them a nice mug with their picture on or a scratch card advent calendar. You can also personalise so much stuff which makes everything that bit more thoughtful.”

Speaking of Christmas, have you got any plans in place for how and where you’re going to spend the festive season?

“For the first time in my adult life, I will not be cooking! Instead, we’ll head off somewhere lovely in the sunshine. Present-wise, I honestly don’t want anything – I’m really content just spending time with the family, which is present enough for me.”

We can’t help but be a tad jealous of your lifestyle – Monaco one minute, the Maldives the next. Is it all that glam, or is the majority of your time spent in old PJs, make-up free while hunkering down on the sofa?

“I would say it’s 50/50. The majority of the time I’m either in gym clothes, horse-riding attire or PJs. I would say most of the time I’m make-up free and in general, I think I have a pretty lovely mix of fun, work and family in my life.”

Being a celebrity has its ups and downs. What are the perks in your opinion?

“I would say the perks are definitely the opportunities that come with being in the public eye – and I do quite like getting invited to nice things! However, another hugely positive aspect is being able to spread the word about things like the orphanage in Moldova I work with. It’s something that’s very close to my heart. I’m actually going again next month with Sam Faiers – it’s really important to us both to be able to use our profiles to make a difference. Experiences like this are really humbling and outweigh any negatives I can think of.”

So there are no negatives? What about trolling among women when we should be supporting one other?

“To be honest, I don’t get trolled that much. I don’t know if that’s because I do bite back – I will out people if they try to troll me and have done it publicly in the past. I think people tend not to bother because they’ll just end up deleting their comments and profiles. I’m lucky to have a pretty thick skin so trolling is a bit like water off a duck’s back for me.”

We love your involvement with female empowerment and friendship. You yourself have a strong girl gang, including best mates Sam Faiers and Anna Williamson. What’s so great about them – and what would they say in return about you?

“Both Sam and Anna are such great friends because I get to do mum stuff with them and the kids, but we can also go out and party – or we can sit at home in our PJs and eat pizza and drink wine! With Sam we try and keep our friendship fairly private. She’s very generously lending her time and joining me on the next Outreach Moldova trip – she asked me if she could come again as it means a lot to her, and it’s making a huge difference to the charity.”

What about Anna?

“Anna and I get on like a house on fire. We never stop laughing when we’re together and often just look at each other, know we’re thinking the exact same thing and just burst out laughing. For us to have moulded that into the LuAnna brand – we have the podcast, the tour and now the YouTube channel, Everything LuAnna –  means we can share our friendship with millions of people! It’s both exciting and brilliant because it doesn’t ever feel like work.”

Tell us more about that YouTube channel – why should our readers tune in?

“I guess to summarise, Everything LuAnna is just a very open, honest conversation between two friends where it feels like you’re in the room with us. Sometimes it gets a bit serious, and we’ll discuss hard-hitting matters, whereas other times we’re laughing about toilet habits! It really encompasses everything a female friendship is about and is truly genuine and relatable. We are who we are, and I think that’s why the brand in general has been so popular. We are so raw – we talk about peeing ourselves, having children, and getting angry with life. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions that people join with us.”

You’re even going on tour together…

“The tour is going to be much of the above and we cannot wait! We’ve had to add more dates because people can’t get enough. Hope to see you there!”

Many assume that injectables are a gold-standard treatment when it comes to giving your skin a lift, but does it do more than a good skincare regime when it comes to skin rejuvenation?

Dermoi are cosmeceutical skincare experts, and their chief scientific officer, Eve Casha, (MSc in pharmaceutical formulation, has commented on the relationship between injectables and facial treatments.

She says: “Injectable procedures, using products like Botox, involve the injection of a bacterial toxin, Botulinum Toxin, into the muscles of deep facial expression to cause temporary and reversible paralysis of a muscle. “However, what many don’t consider is that there are many signs of ageing in the skin that muscle contractions are not the cause of. For example, as we age certain cell types in the skin decline in number and activity. In addition, it is estimated that over 80% of the aging seen on the face is from long-term exposure to UV radiation and this is what leads to majority of wrinkles, dryness, leathery texture, uneven pigmentation, and sagging appearing with age.”

“Unfortunately, while there is some recent evidence that would suggest that Botox could have a temporary skin rejuvenation activity, the scientific evidence proving this concept is not complete or consistent.”

So what is the relationship between injectables and facial treamtents?

One could argue that injectables and facial treatments complement each other when it comes to giving skin a smoother look. Injectables like Botox can be used to target deep wrinkles associated with facial expressions, whereas advanced facial treatments using active ingredients can be used to preserve and protect the cell types within the skin tissue from age-related changes.

The effects of injectables like Botox are temporary (lasting three to six months), but the effects of the right facial treatments will only leave skin stronger and more protected over time.

With the skincare market being so overwhelmed with false information, we have all felt the frustration of ineffective skincare and skin reactions caused by incorrect use of potent actives. More than ever, the need for regular check-ins with a skin expert is needed.

Marina, you lived in LA for 35 years before coming back to Blighty. Why now?

“Before my husband Michael passed away, we’d discussed returning to the UK – although he hated London so we couldn’t have lived in the capital. However, after he’d gone, it was too painful to stay in Los Angeles, so I came back to my hometown.”

You’ve been back on UK soil for seven months. What are you loving most about being back?

“I love everything about being home – even though it rained every day in May! All of my best girlfriends live in the UK, and they’ve kept me very busy since I’ve been back. To be perfectly honest I haven’t missed Los Angeles at all.”

Having said that, what did you enjoy most about your lifestyle in LA?

“You can actually schedule stuff to do outside with confidence, without ever having to worry about the weather. Also, parking is never an issue.”

What acting work would you love to land now you’re back in the UK? You were in the West End in 2019, so is it the theatre for you – or will we see you in EastEnders as the Queen Vic landlady one day?

“I would love to do more theatre now I’m back in London. I hadn’t stepped on a stage to do a play for over 20 years, and I really got the bug performing in Dark Sublime at Trafalgar Studios. However, if a slot opened up on EastEnders I’d be there in a shot.”

Is there any other UK actor you’d love to work with?

“There are so many that I admire. Olivia Colman, Sarah Lancashire, Nicole Walker… I could go on and on. The pressure to be skinny and gorgeous is really hard to deal with in America. I love the fact that British writers write for real women of every age and background.”

You celebrated your 66^th birthday in March. How do you feel about being in your 70s in four years’ time?

“I think I’m one of the few actresses who actually tell people their real age. I’ve found that the positive feedback I get is much better than lying about one’s age and then having people say, ‘yeah, right!’.”

Actors don’t tend to retire at the typical age society deems ‘appropriate’. Do you have any plans of retiring yourself?

“I will never retire. Like Tommy Cooper, I want to die on stage.”

What do you fill your time with when you’re not working?

“I love to cook and bake, plus I’m pretty nifty with a pair of knitting needles!”

How did Covid affect you?

“I lost Michael three months before the pandemic took hold, so it was really hard to deal with my grief and Covd at the same time. I was more or less alone for a year before I came to London.”

Do you think you will ever date again? 

“I haven’t thought about dating. I was with the same man for over 33 years, so the thought of anybody seeing me naked fills me with terror!”

What did you love about Michael so much?

“Where do I start? One of the reasons my marriage was so successful was that Michael made me laugh every single day.”

Where would you like to be five years from now?

“I live in the moment. I know a lot of people say that, but I really don’t dwell on the past. There’s also no point in projecting into the future as it’s hypothetical. Just enjoy the time that you’re in.”

Finally, please tell us one strange fact that you’ve never revealed to your fans until now?

“I can do the splits!”

Imogen, you’re about to grace our screens on the second series of Celeb Ex in the City. Without giving the game away, what can you reveal about your experience on the show?

“I loved taking part in the latest series. I was so nervous to see who was going to turn up and gate-crash my dinner! It was the hottest day of the year, and I was roasting! Let alone not knowing who was about to turn up.…”

Let’s talk about previous men in your life. What’s the most disastrous date you’ve ever been on?

“I had a date once who was literally more interested in watching the boxing than being with me. We went to a really beautiful restaurant in London’s Park Lane, and he didn’t order any food – instead he just watched me eat and asked me to hurry up, so we could catch the fight on a screen on the next street. I ate my steak then told him my babysitter had called and said my daughter was crying for me and that I needed to leave – that was my quick escape. It’s safe to say I never saw or spoke to him again.”

What’s the most romantic gesture a man has ever done for you?

“When I first started dating my ex – the father of my girls – he used to spoil me so much, hand-delivering flowers every week. When I used to get home from work I’d often come home to rose petals on the stairs, with designer shoes at the top. Another time he ran me a bath and scattered rose petals on the top of the water. I was spoilt a lot.”

What do you look for in a man?

“I love a confident man – a man who can make a plan. I hate any guy asking me what I want to do. I like tall, dark and handsome, but someone who can make me laugh. He has to be kind and caring and want to be in mine and my girls’ lives. A definite turn off is someone who doesn’t know who they are and doesn’t hold a job. I need a man who can enjoy life with me but protect me, too.”

What’s the perfect way for a guy to really woo you? Imagine your perfect first date…

“Take me to Paris for the day, then hire out a romantic restaurant and spoil me like crazy! To be honest I’ve had a lot of good dates, but I still want to visit Paris with a guy. I’d also love to horse ride under the stars with a man, too.”

Having dated people in the spotlight, would you ever do it again?

“I’d date someone in the public eye if I liked them. To be honest, my life is pretty normal, and I like it that way. I have my own set of friends away from the limelight who are real and genuinely fun people to be around. That’s why I’ve been dating normal guys, because this is what I’m attracted to now. Things have changed since I’ve got older. If I’m dating someone in the public eye, then I feel pressure for it to work. Everyone is watching, and it’s just not real.”

Being a single mum to two young girls must be tough. How do you cope with school runs, work and housework?

“It’s hard, I’m not going to lie, but I love every minute of it. I simply don’t stop. I drop the girls off then juggle work until it’s time to pick them up again. I have a time frame I work with and literally will do it all in that period. I have a cleaner who comes for five hours once a week, as I have a big house so I need the help! I just can’t fit everything in. I’ve been working a lot lately and I love it. It’s exhausting at times, though.”

Will you ever move back to Wales?

“I would love to move back to Wales. I love the fresh air, everything is cheaper – and it’s also home. It will always be home to me, and I miss my family. I particularly love Cardiff at the moment. I was filming there recently for the BBC and got to go shopping one day. It’s changed massively, and there are so many opportunities there now.”

You’re fluent in Welsh, as we learned from you speaking to fellow Big Brother contestant Glyn Wise on the show. What do you say to comments like one made by sociologist Dr James Dingley, who suggested that Welsh is a language “no one else really needs or wants”?

“It’s a real shame he said that. Only 29.2% of the population of Wales speak Welsh, and I once got myself in trouble because I said that my girls won’t be learning it. I simply meant that we live in London, so they won’t be needing it here. It’s a hard language, but I’m pleased to say I took all of my school exams in Welsh. I’m proud of that – and I’m proud we have our own language, too.”

Speaking of Big Brother, what did you love about your time on the show?

“I loved the fact that it was real, and that none of us knew what we were getting out of it. There was no social media, so instead we just enjoyed the experience. I think it was the best TV back then. Now people go on reality shows for fame. It’s all a bit naff now.”

You were 23 when you entered the Big Brother house – and next year you turn 40. Have you thought about any future goals?

“I can’t believe you’ve just reminded me that I’m 40 next year! I actually can’t believe it myself. I’ve achieved so much since doing the show. As far as career goals I’m now a property investor, with five ‘Buy to Lets’ in and around London. These properties are my other ‘babies’ ­– and my main source of income – so I feel like I’ve achieved my goals. However, if I got asked to be on a big show I’d be very happy. I would love to appear on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! So, let’s see…”

Finally, as we ask each and every celebrity, please tell us one strange fact or party trick that you’ve never revealed to your fans… until now…

“I’m double-jointed and can click my shoulders out of their sockets. Yes, I’m aware it’s really gross!”

Olly, tell us about the Peperami ‘Ban the Bland’ campaign – what made you get involved?

‘I’ve always loved Peperami and it was a real treat to spot them in the fridge growing up. Since then they’ve come out with so many different delicious snacks, so I jumped at the chance to be involved. I’ll generally try most things, so I wasn’t too worried about the tasting part – I was looking forward to eating a lot of Peperami snacks, though…”

Do you have any food or snack no-nos?

“I like snacks with flavour, so anything that’s under-seasoned or bland is boring . A snack no-no was something I was once made to try – dry wheat biscuits with baked beans! The one food I absolutely detest are raw tomatoes, so having a load of cherry tomatoes as a snack would be my nightmare. My partner, Amelia and I don’t have any quirky food aversions – but I like sweet chilli sauce on everything.”

You mentioned some of your idols in the Peperami Ban The Bland video, so do you have any funny stories to share?

“I’m very lucky to have met, worked and become friends with some of my icons – Robbie Williams, Michael Buble and Sir Tom Jones. Robbie asked me to support him on his European Stadium Tour in 2013 which was a lot of fun, and being a practical joker I decided to dress up like Kylie Minogue in gold hotpants, as well as full make-up and a wig, surprising him in his dressing room. I was close to doing it on stage, but I wasn’t quite sure how he’d react! Luckily he found it hilarious.”

Olly kept the fact he fancied David Beckham’s wife, Victoria, quiet during Soccer Aid!

What about celebrity crushes?

“I don’t have any current celebrity crushes, but I’ve said it before – I was a huge Posh Spice fan growing up, and even had a photo of Victoria in my wallet. I didn’t reveal that to David Beckham when I saw him at Soccer Aid though!”

You’ve been known as a ladies’ man in the past, so what did it take for you to settle down?

“I’m very fortunate to have met Amelia at the time in my life that I did. I was ready to settle down, and just going into lockdown meant my work was put on hold and I was able to spend quality time with her, building the foundations of our relationship. She’s brilliant and I’d love to have a future with her.”

Do you and Amelia have any plans to get married?

“Marriage and kids – well, you’ll have to wait and see, as we’re in no rush and are very happy as we are right now. Being a pet parent has definitely been a good next step! We wouldn’t change our dog Missy for the world – she’s the best!”

Tell us about your first date with Amelia – how did it go?

“Our first date was actually in a gym – sad I know, but that’s genuinely where we met. I got chatting to her in the middle of a group workout session and offered to drive her home – smooth I know!”

Where do you like to go when you fancy a night out?

“There’s a restaurant in Essex called Sheesh that does amazing barbecue food – we’ll get dressed up and have dinner there with friends, eating while listening to their live music. Having said that, Amelia is a good cook, so she makes lots of great food at home. I’m not so good, but I’m getting better! Definitely being at home during lockdown has made me appreciate home-cooked food, as I’ve been non-stop for 10 years and often don’t get to appreciate that.”

What food can you never resist?

“If you made me a banging roast dinner I’d be happy– that’s definitely up there as a favourite meal.  However, you’d have to try and beat my mum’s! My other vice would probably be chocolate-coated peanuts. They’re hard to resist!”

What would be your perfect night in?

“Staying in has become a lot more normal over the last few years with Covid, but we genuinely enjoy entertaining at home. Amelia and I will invite our closest mates over for drinks and food, with maybe some games or a TV night. We both love movies and box sets – and there’s an endless choice now on all the streaming sites. For Christmas we got a Best 100 Films poster to scratch off, so we’re trying to work our way through that. One of the best ones on there that I hadn’t seen was Little Miss Sunshine – it’s such a great film.”

Olly and bodybuilder girlfriend Amelia’s first date was in the gym!

Amelia is a body builder, so do you keep in shape together?

“Amelia is a bikini model and has won numerous competitions, so she really understands the dedication and commitment of fitness around competing. She’s taught me a lot, and it’s become part of our lives to train well. It’s no longer a chore – we both train because we feel the benefits both mentally and physically. It’s great that we are both on the same page and can encourage each other.”

So does training mean you can eat what you want?

“Amelia trains most days, so she can afford to snack on whatever she wants – but I can’t get away with it as much! Now I’m 37 I have to work hard to keep in shape. Food is definitely something we enjoy as a couple though, and we still love takeaways and going out for nice dinners.”

Speaking of nice dinners makes us think of Christmas, which will soon be here. Do you have any plans yet?

“Christmas is pretty traditional in our house, with all the family around, so I’m looking forward to that. It usually comprises of eating way too much and falling asleep on the sofa in front of a Christmas film, as I’m sure many people can relate to! I’ll also be working on some TV projects over the festive period, as I have a new show coming out next year called Starstruck that I recorded earlier this year. I can’t wait for everyone to watch it.”

You’re an advocate for mental health and have spoken about it a lot in the media. Do you have any tips for those who might be struggling?

“I’d definitely encourage talking to someone. You’d be surprised how many people will empathise ­– and probably open up themselves. I think it’s becoming more acceptable for men in particular to talk openly about their mental health. I’d also advise anyone to go and speak to an impartial counsellor. It definitely did me the world of good having a stranger give me their impartial views and advice. Finding a hobby, or something that makes you feel good is always a positive, too. It’s an outlet for any stress or anxiety, even if it’s as simple as going for a walk.”

Olly loves touring, considering it “the best part of my job”

We know you’re going on tour next summer – why do you love it so much? 

“I’m excited to get back on the road again. It’s genuinely the best part of my job, being able to perform in front of fans up and down the country. Touring this year has obviously been very different, with a lot of Covid measures in place, but usually we’d have a few hours before a show to hang out backstage, seeing friends, family and guests of the show, as well as having a bit of food. When we’re all dressed and ready to go, the band and I do a ritual huddle behind the stage. My brass section plays a tune we’ve been doing for years, and we all have a sing and dance before we walk on stage. It’s a special moment, and we’ve done it for nearly a decade now!”

What’s been your most embarrassing moment on tour?

“Definitely ripping my trousers on stage! I dropped to my knees at the end of a song, with the spotlight on me before it went to black at the end, and I heard a massive rip at my crotch. Luckily I was wearing pants! I had to have a crew member throw me a towel on stage and sheepishly exit to change my trousers!”

What else is on the horizon for you?

“I’m definitely keen to release more music next year, as it’s been a while – I’m very excited about that. I’ll also be focusing a lot on TV work, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more of me in 2022!”

How are you feeling after ending up in A&E after a reaction to your second Covid jab?

“I have Idiopathic Chronic Purpura, which is an autoimmune disease that means I have a low platelet count and bruise very easily. I’d had my second Covid jab and woke up with all these red spots on my stomach. I sent the image to my doctor and because of my history he said I needed to go to hospital. I had blood tests and a thorough examination and it revealed my platelets had dropped, but I’m fine now.”

Were you relieved or upset when A Place in the Sun halted filming?

“It was such a strange feeling because I was actually abroad when we got the announcement. I couldn’t believe it was happening – it felt like I was in a Will Smith movie! We just packed up and got on with the lockdown like everyone else.”

The pandemic also had a huge impact on your coffee shop, Lord Roberts on the Green. What was it like transforming it into a village shop and stocking supplies?

“I literally stopped working as a travel presenter and threw myself into our coffee shop business, trying to positively help the community in whatever way we could. It was a real help to people in the area, especially when no one could get an online food shop and people were worried about going out to get their essential supplies. I also enjoyed being at home, as it’s a place I don’t normally spend a lot of time in!”

Then there was the challenge of homeschooling – by the looks of it you didn’t find teaching your two kids a breeze…

“There were parts I enjoyed, and parts I definitely didn’t! I love teaching my kids to ride a bike, swim or play tennis, but when it comes to sitting down and trying to get them to read and write it was hard. I think the structure in a classroom is far easier than trying to do it at home.”

Do you agree kids need extra lessons from all the school they’ve missed?

“Kids learn very quickly – they’re sponges that absorb information super-fast. Yes, they’ve missed several months of the year, but learning doesn’t have to be purely classroom-based. We’d make cakes one day and that would involve lots of maths in terms of measuring, plus they’ve learned a lot through my experience in travel, such as different languages, foods and cultures. I feel where my children really missed out is that social interaction they got from being at school.”

Have you got your head around the new way of living?

“I think so, but was strange not knowing how to greet someone – we’ve all become quite socially awkward. For me it’s more about seeing our children return back to normality – one minute you can see your friends and enjoy your after-school clubs, then the next everything was shut. It’s been so hard on their mental health.”

Let’s go back to what you know best – travelling overseas. What’s it like travelling with all the restrictions in place?

“There’s a lot of paperwork, but it can be done if you need or are allowed to travel. I actually feel fairly comfortable flying – for one, I’ve been fully vaccinated, but I’m also getting on a plane where everyone has also been PCR tested in order to board. It puts me at ease in a way.”

What are your plans for your own summer holiday?

“I’m the same as everyone else – I’m not really making plans too far in advance. If it’s at all possible I’d love to get abroad, but for now I’m just going to wait and see.”

When this is all over where can’t you wait to visit?

“The Maldives – I’m lucky enough to have been five times! It’s the most perfect place to properly switch off. We once went to the Maldives and then on to Sri Lanka, which mixed relaxation with adventure. I’d also love to visit Bali one day.”

Have you always wanted to be a travel presenter?

“When I was young, I had a huge gap between my two front teeth and my Nan used to say it meant I was destined for travel! My little boy, Rocco has the same gap as I did – and I now tell him he’s destined for the same! He actually wants to be a vet and work in Africa caring for animals when he’s older, and I always tell him to go for it.”

What are the good and bad sides to travel presenting?

“There aren’t any bad sides! It’s educational and inspirational discovering new places and meeting new people. I’m lucky that the kids get to come with me when they can, and I’ve even got used to living out of a suitcase.”

Back in March 2020 you announced on Instagram you wanted to get your pilot’s license. How’s that been going?

“I need to get back up there – I’ve only managed 16 hours because of all the restrictions. I love it so much though. Watch this space, as I will definitely get there in the end.”

You’re the big 4-0 next April. In an ideal world, what are your plans?

“I’d like to be abroad if we’re allowed! To be perfectly honest turning 40 really doesn’t faze me – it’s literally just a number. I have this reputation of living my life a million miles an hour. I’ve been listening to Laura Whitmore’s audiobook No One Can Change Your Life Except For You, which really resonates with me. She loves to keep busy and is always juggling various projects, and I’m the same. I feel like I constantly want to learn more, to explore more, and to enjoy an adventure.”

Linda, you burst on to our screens on Changing Rooms back in the Nineties. What are your fondest memories from the time on the show?

“I loved the energy of the show, particularly its fast pace and the opportunity to get huge transformations done so quickly. It was very exciting!”

Do you still see or catch up with any of the other presenters and designers?

“From time to time we see each other at industry events, catch up on the phone or via social media – it’s lovely to see how much we’ve all moved on over the years.”

What’s the most memorable room you made over?

“I remember vividly my very first show – how could I not? The adrenaline was high and everything was so new. I worked with an overhead projector casting a huge artwork onto the walls of a living room which I then painted. It was such a thrill to finally get to work on the programme after so much planning.”

Let’s talk 2021 home trends. What should we be doing in terms of themes and colour scheme?

“Anything goes these days, and it’s entirely down to personal choice. Dark moody walls or pale Scandi style are both in right now, but no one is going to tell you that you’re wrong in your own personal choice! I am personally using a lot of floral patterns in my room designs, both on fabrics and hand painted designs over entire walls.”

If you had the cash to splash on just one room, what should you do and why?

“The kitchen is the obvious room of choice, as this can often be the most expensive room in the house, but at the moment my attention is on garden rooms. Blurring the outside to the inside with luscious greenery is something I’m very passionate about. I adore seeing lots of house plants and tall, vertically planted walls, both inside and outside the house. You don’t need acres of space, either – your kitchen, living room or bathroom can be transformed with lots of plants and flowers, both real and fake.”

Are there any budget-friendly ways you can transform a room without eating into your overdraft?

“Paint is the clear winner for its quick and transformative powers. You can change the vibe of a space entirely in just an afternoon.”

Tell us all about the Linda Barker Home range… why did you choose to bring it out and what was your inspiration?

“My floral patterns are inspired by nature and in particular the hedgerows in the fields around my home, which is why I named it the Field and Flower collection. I adore the tangle of wildflowers and I’m inspired even by those plants we often pull out of our garden, from the twisted bindweed and dandelion to the shepherds’ purse seed heads. Everything gets close attention – even the weeds!”

You lived in London for years before relocating back up to Yorkshire. What’s your home like and what made you fall in love with it in the first place?

“It’s a glorious and elegant Georgian house in the middle of the countryside with a lovely big wraparound garden. It’s a massive restoration project for us, both on the house itself and in the gardens. We are loving the hard work that goes into a project like this.”

Are you forever redecorating?

“I am – I’m fortunate to have always had a job that I love and I’m always thinking about my next decorating project. Thankfully clients that I work with allow me to explore often weird and wonderful design ideas and I’ll always put these ideas into practice in my own home too.”

What’s the favourite space in your home and why?

“My kitchen. I have designed each and every detail and because of that the space is completely bespoke to how we live. I have used my own paint colours alongside reclaimed timber and gorgeous worktops. It works so well without being at-all precious or delicate. It’s full of plants, colour and light and is a great space to cook and party in.”

When you want to switch off what is it you love to do best?

“Wild swimming is a passion and I’m in the water all year round, even when there’s ice at the edges! It’s easy now that water temperatures are above 12 degrees but it’s such a thrill when you can get your body into freezing water – it reminds you how amazing your body really is, simply to be able to survive! I am a yoga lover and I love long distance walking, as well, with the Yorkshire Three Peaks a firm favourite. I keep fit with a personal trainer too, so I love to be active and strong. Gardening is a complete joy, and as you might imagine I love any aspect of arts and crafts including sewing, baking and painting. There’s always a project on the go!”

What about cooking? Are you the chef of the house – or is your husband a whizz in the kitchen?

“It’s me in the kitchen – although Chris seems to take control of the outdoor cooking. I’ve just invested in a lovely outdoor charcoal oven so I’m hoping there are more meals to be cooked outside. A perfect night in for me would involve dinner outside, always with friends if possible, while a night out would be a theatre visit or a show, again with friends and lovely food.”

You’re turning 60 later on this year! How will you be celebrating?

“I’m hoping to climb up a great big mountain, but let’s see if I can get a flight out first though. I’ve always said life is for living – and I’m lucky to be celebrating mine in good health.”

You must be in bits after your Run 4 Nations race! How’s your body feeling a week after four marathons in under 24 hours?

“The recovery process is probably going to take up to two months. My body’s really out of whack, plus my immunity’s shot to pieces. Ideally, I’d have rested for a full week to recover, but being a Daddy – along with everything else going on – means it’s just not possible. It’s a challenge, especially as I’m still on crutches while my torn ligaments heal.”

Was there ever a part when you thought you might not make it?

“I’m one of those people that no matter how much I’m broken, I know I’m not going to fail, especially with the message behind the challenge and the time put into it. Having said that there were times when my team were concerned. I went from running 35 minutes ahead of schedule to tearing my ligaments during the third marathon, which meant I was running so slowly I wouldn’t have made the 24-hour mark. The transition from the third to fourth marathon was a blur – I was spaced out and vomiting in the helicopter to the final race location. It was a case of topping up the painkillers and taping up my leg, then they gave me a proverbial kick up the backside to crack on.”

Tell us all about Run 4 Nations and why you wanted to take part…

“I really want to change the narrative behind mental illness and how we perceive it. I also want to change people’s perceptions of what they think is possible. I hated running a year and a half ago, and now here we are having just completed a world record first. I hope people can see what’s possible when you struggle mentally, like I do. It’s time to start showcasing that any form of negative energy can be channeled into something positive. Use it as your ammunition ­– your motivation to go and do things – because that’s the moment when you succeed. If you can accomplish that when you’re at your lowest imagine what you can do when you’re at your best.”

You’ve always been open with your own battles with mental health and suicidal thoughts. How are you now?

“I struggle with anxiety every single day. It can be anything that triggers it, but it doesn’t define me. It’s just a part of my process, meaning each day I engage and figure out how to work with it. Lockdown and having to stay away from friends and family didn’t help, especially when you aspire to film and achieve certain things – or even just to travel to certain places – but you can’t allow it to take control.”

Your social media is full of images of you running. Do you believe exercise contributes to better mental health?

“I don’t know anyone that has exercised and said it’s not been good for them. What we have to try and do is tailor it to that specific person, because what’s the point in exercising if you don’t enjoy it? Don’t get into something solely to try and achieve the standard of someone. Instead, figure out what exercise you actually enjoy and just take your time with it.”

You’ve a daughter, India, four. How are you going to guide her on the importance of looking after her own mental health as she grows?

“India’s going to make her own mind up – she’s an independent and strong little woman! One of the most valuable videos I have on my phone is when I was doing the wheelchair challenge [in 2019 Josh completed 34 challenges in 19 days in a wheelchair]. I’ve got her on film desperate to push me in the chair, which shows her emotions. She’s such a beautiful lady and I hope that over time all of my ambitions and accomplishments have a positive effect on her. I hope she’ll be open to talking about any of her own hurdles she’ll naturally be faced with as she grows.”

India’s just turned four and starts school this September! How does that make you feel?

“I’m excited for her, as she loves being around other children. I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone! She’s going to a great local primary, and we love how passionate the school is surrounding education and how they look after the children. I’m just looking forward to the annual sports day, where I can whip every other dad’s butt in the fathers’ race!”

Finally, what’s the one piece of advice you can offer to anyone who’s feeling anxious or depressed?

“Reach out. You don’t even have to go into depth about what it is that you’re feeling – just text someone you feel comfortable with and say you’re feeling off. You have to start that conversation and then the rest will work itself out. Don’t struggle alone. It’s simply not worth it.”
