Northumberland Cheese Company was founded as the Redesdale Sheep Dairy in the spring of 1985 at Soppitt Farm, Elsdon in Northumberland. Over the years, the business grew and by 1996 it was necessary to leave Soppitt and move to Blagdon Estate in South Northumberland. By this time, they had changed the name to Northumberland Cheese Company. The building at Blagdon was a 19th Century granary, which they converted into a cheese-making dairy with the Cheese Loft Café and shop upstairs.

At Bladgon, they have the capabilities to marry traditional artisan cheese making craftsmanship with modern best practices. They currently make seven different types of artisan cheeses. Their newest cheese is the Chesterwood Smoked Goats’ cheese. Their bestsellers are Smoked and Nettle. Northumberland Cheese Company are a part of the Bradburys Cheese family which allows them to work very closely with other artisan cheesemakers.

The Cheese Loft Café & Shop is set above their working dairy. All of the cheese in the café is from the dairy downstairs, and with offerings such as ‘The Cheese Lovers Afternoon Tea’, it is a truly Northumberland Cheese experience.

They also open their dairy doors for Dairy Tours Days.
