Watership Alpacas has created a fashion enterprise that benefits wildlife and only uses their own high quality alpaca fibre to make ladies jackets and toddler coats that are spun, woven and sewn in the UK.

Field to fashion business

A wonderful mill in Wales has been receiving the fleece every two years for carding, spinning and weaving. The ladies jackets and toddler coats, made by a small traditional manufacturer in Sheffield, are of a classic, raglan sleeve design, buttoned and loose fitting for ease of wear. The toddler coats are made using our own Watership Alpaca fibre. Lightweight but warm and cosy, they are designed to be easy and comfortable for babies and toddlers to wear.

Watership Alpacas are proud members of “Make it British” and all their products carry the “Pure Alpaca” label. All garments have sustainable linings and full care instructions and are sent out in sustainable packaging.

Supporting wildlife

Watership Alpacas farm is managed to support the health of the land and nature, as well as their beautiful British Alpaca Society-registered alpacas. One meadow has so many herbs it positively buzzes in the summer; they call it the medicine meadow as it must be so good for the alpacas.

The very presence of the alpacas attracts insects and ensures mud around water troughs, both of which are important for the swallows that return to the stables and field shelters every year.

The field pond has a healthy population of dragonflies, other insects and amphibian life, while providing swooping and dipping opportunities for the swallows.
