Calum Best talks Love Island, staying in shape and guilty pleasures

In the best shape of his life right now, Calum Best reveals how he maintains his toned physique, including what he eats in a day, what exercises he does in the gym and what his guilty pleasures are…

Are you watching Love Island this year?
‘This time round I haven’t. I see how much of a phenomenon it is but I’m working and training quite a lot.’

How are you different since the days on Love Island back in 2005?
‘I’m older and wiser now. My confidence levels have grown hugely and I now know who I am and I feel comfortable in myself.’

What do you eat to stay in such great shape?
‘I’m meat free which I started as a challenge but now due to the health benefits and other elements around it I have stuck to it.

Here’s what I tend to eat on a daily basis:

First thing in the morning I have a shot of ginger, turmeric & lime
Breakfast: Smoothie (spinach, egg, almond milk, plant protein, blueberries)
Lunch: Fish & veg
Dinner: Fish & veg
Snacks: Protein shakes

What do you do at the gym?
‘Spin, boxing, Olympic weight lifting at KXU, BXR & Barry’s bootcamp.’

You’ve struggled with alcohol in the past. What advice would you give to someone who is drinking more than they would like to be?
‘Find someone you trust to talk about it with. I have worked with a charity called Nacoa for 15 years and there are some great helplines out there if you would rather it be an anonymous chat. But reach out and talk.’

Are you a morning person or a later in the day kind of person?
‘I’m definitely a morning person. I’m up at 7am and in bed by 11pm.’

What’s your guilty pleasure?
‘Sugar! (Haribo & ice cream especially)’

Are you a sweet or savoury kind of person?
‘Sweet!’

Could you tell Celebrity Secrets readers one thing they might not already know about you?
‘I used to be a semi-pro snowboarder.’
